Top 6 Reasons Why Marketing Is The Best Way To Earn Money Online

If you are looking for the best home based online business that is easy to start and requires minimal start-up capital, affiliate marketing is the most recommended approach.
As an affiliate, you will be marketing other people’s products for a commission. Depending on the product, the commission can be 30% to 70% on every sale that you make.

This article outlines the reasons why affiliate marketing is the best online business which anyone can start, regardless of what experience they have in internet marketing.

1.      You do not need to create your own product. As an affiliate, you will be making money online through commissions which you earn from marketing other people’s products.
2.      You do not have to handle or ship products. As an affiliate, all you have to do is to direct potential customers to the merchant’s website using your affiliate link. You do not need to worry about payment processing or product delivery.
3.      You do not need to create a website or write a sales copy, which can be quite costly. If you already have your own website, all you need to do is to add your affiliate links on your website. You can also still earn money online as an affiliate without a website by simply promoting your affiliate link. If you are writing and submitting articles as a way of advertising, all you need to do is to add your affiliate links at the end of each article. People who read your articles will then click on your affiliate link which can make you a sale.
4.      There is no need for domain and hosting costs. When starting an online business, most people have limited cash. In affiliate marketing, there is no need to pay for hosting and having your own domain since you do not necessarily need to have your own website. While it is helpful to have your own website where you promote your affiliate programs, you can still start to earn money just by promoting your affiliate link without a website.
5.      There are no requests for refunds to deal with. As an affiliate, you do not have to worry about handling any requests for refunds. You earn commission on every product you sell, and it is the product owner’s responsibility to handle any requests for refunds.
6.      You can pick and choose the products you want to sell. There are many products you can choose from to promote. You can therefore choose those “hot” products that are popular and in demand, and that also match your interests or website theme.

Affiliate marketing is therefore the best and easiest way to start making money online. Anyone can do it, and you can do it too!

4 Important Tools You Need To Succeed As An Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing is one the most powerful and easy ways through which you can earn money online.  To succeed in affiliate marketing on the internet, you will need several tools that you can use to build your business.

This article presents these key tools and how they can help you to easily build your affiliate marketing business.

  1. A professionally designed website. A serious affiliate marketer is one who invests in building a website for marketing affiliate programs and products. This is professional and increases the credibility of your business. Instead of sending traffic to the product owner's sales page, you can direct them through your own website. By doing this, you can include your own personal recommendations of the products on your website, which is helpful to people considering to buy. You can also collect the names and email address of people who visit tour website and build a list of prospects.
  2. Have a reliable hosting company (ex: Hostgator.com) so that your website is running smoothly all the time.
  3. An auto responder system.  This is important because not everyone who visits your website where you market affiliate programs will purchase right away. An auto responder helps you follow up with these people, and will keep on reminding them about your website and invite them to visit your site. You can use an e-course or an e-zine with interesting tips that will make your prospects want to visit your website again. By doing this you are increasing the chances of generating a sale from most people who visit your site.
  4. An advert tracking system. If you want to make sales and earn affiliate commissions, you must drive traffic to your website. This means that you must be constantly advertising your website using different types of campaigns. It is important that you track and assess the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns and advertising tools that you use. This analysis will help you select the most effective campaign and invest more money in it for even better results.
There are thousands other affiliates who are marketing the same products like you. It is therefore important that you use the tools presented above so that your business is professional and efficient.

3 Ways To Make More Money With Google Adsense

Along with AdWords, Google Adsense is the most used PPC program out there on the internet with the combination of Adsense and AdWords being around 95% of all of Google’s revenue. Millions of people use Adsense worldwide to make money from their website and blogs. However, most publishers could still make more money from Adsense and PPC if they knew a few ways they can optimise their publisher account for maximum clicks and a maximum CPC. Here are three ways any publisher of Google Adsense can make more money.

Bigger The Ads, The Better

Gaining clicks on adverts can be a difficult task at best. A variable that will directly affect the CTR of your adverts is its size.

The smaller the advert, the less likely web users are going to see it meaning the less likely it is going to be clicked on. You see, a bigger advert has a few benefits:
  1. The web user is more likely to see and click it.
  2. The bigger something is on the webpage, the more important it is usually stereotyped as.
  3. A bigger advert will hold more text adverts from different advertisers. Therefore, if the web user doesn’t like the top text advert, there are a few below that s/he might want to click on.
In general, stick to big adverts when using Google Adsense. I have found along with many other publishers that the squarer the advert too, the higher the CTR.

Choose Placement Wisely

Again, where about on your webpage you choose the place your Adsense adverts will affect the click through rate they get. Although Google’s heat map for where to place adverts is quite useful, below are the areas publishers on the internet have found to be the best placement for Adsense adverts:
  1. Next to the header – This is usually a 468×60 advert. However, if your header image is pretty small or your header-wrapper is rather large, then you may find it better to use the space more efficiently with the 728×90 advert. Both times should be just image ads displayed.
  2. Just above the content – This is the best place for adverts because it is where reader’s will look the most when starting to read an article. For this, the 336×280 or 300×250 adverts are the perfect solution for this area. Both text and image adverts can be used here.
  3. Below the content advert – Again, this is another great place to put an advert. Like above content, both 336×280 or the 300×250 can be used here with text and image adverts being displayed.
Create a Adsense-Friendly Template

This is a must do. Most publishers feel that to make more money through Adsense, they need to change the way they use Adsense. However, a big factor that will affect the CTR inparticularly of your adverts is your website’s template. Making sure your template fits Adsense adverts into it is key to your success in PPC. Therefore, if your adverts do not look natural on your website, look to change the template. There are many websites out there that have Adsense-optimised templates that are free of charge to use: take advantage of this to maximise your Adsense earnings.

7 Lessons from a Full Time Freelance Blogger

I am almost exclusively greeted with bemusement whenever I tell someone what I do for a living. It is something that I have gotten used to over time. “A freelance blogger? Can you even make money doing that?”
In fairness, if someone had told me that they were a freelance blogger 12 months ago, I would have probably reacted with similar bemusement. It is only recently that I have come to realize how lucrative freelance blogging can be. I am earning an equivalent of $100 per hour for some of my work.
It has been a big learning curve though – at the beginning of 2011 I barely even knew what a blog was. I’ve come a long way since then, and have gradually become aware of a few key things that have led me to where I am.
Now I want to share them with you!

1. Have a Blog

I haven’t sought out any work since last November, because people come to me asking if I can work for them. All of my recent clients have approached me my via my blog.
If you take a look at the blog, you will see that it barely screams “hire me”. On the contrary – there is a “Hire Me” link in the navigation bar, and that is it.
I blog in part about helping people to become freelance writers – i.e., I write for others like me, not prospective clients. And yet I still receive enquiries. If you build a blog specifically for your target clients, you should be able to fare far better than I do.
Stop wasting your time on job boards trying to find clients that may or not may not be interested in your services. When a client reaches out to you, you are already in a position of strength.

2. Get Bylines

Prospective clients often approach me having found my blog through a byline on a client’s blog. The logic is simple – if someone is looking for a blogger, likes your writing, and see that you are available to hire, they will probably contact you.
So whenever appropriate, you should get a byline. If a client initially balks at the idea, suggest that it can actually be of benefit to the blog, in showing that a recognized blogger is writing for them.
Bylines are of course not always appropriate – for instance, if you are ghost writing, or writing on a topic in which you have no real expertise.

3. Consider Intangible Benefits

How much you get paid should not be the only consideration when deciding whether or not to take on work. I still work with certain clients who pay me way under my “peak” hourly rate, because of the associated intangible benefits. These include:
  • Authority – it is good to be seen as a writer for an authoritative blog.
  • Traffic – certain blogs send my own blog a healthy amount of traffic.
  • Potential – could the work lead to bigger and better things?
  • Security – could the work be a long term source of secure income?
Such intangible benefits can help you to better rationalize the offer, and make a decision accordingly.

4. Never Price by the Hour

Here’s a little slice of freelance blogging 101 – never price work by the hour.
Instead, become faster at doing your work than everyone else, then charge the same per post or project. If you can write a 500 word article in 30 minutes and someone will pay you $50 for it, your equivalent hourly rate is $100.
The client is happy to pay $50 for a quality article – how long it took you to write it is irrelevant.

5. Type Fast

I’ve been using computers since the age of five, and naturally learned to type pretty fast (around 90 words per minute). I don’t touch type in a particularly beautiful manner, but it gets the job done.
But I digress. The point is, the faster you can type, the faster you can write blog posts. It may sound trivial, but it really isn’t. If you are interested in writing for a living, learning to type faster is effectively a business investment.

6. Write Fast

For the purpose of this article, there is a difference between typing fast and writing fast. Writing fast is about taking a blog post from its inception, to completion, in the quickest way possible.
Typically speaking, the better you plan a blog post, the more quickly you will write it. This may sound counter-productive, but how many times have you got to the middle a post only to forget the core issue you were trying to address, or how you were planning on addressing it?
Plotting a post out in bullet points allows you to address any potential issues before you waste too much time. Once you are done with the framework of the post, it is then just a case of fleshing out your bullet points.

7. Write What You Know About (or Charge More)

There is a common misconception that you must write about complicated topics (or that you need to be an “expert” on something) in order to earn good money as a freelance writer, but that is simply not the case.
It again comes down to speed. If you are knowledgeable on a topic, you can probably produce a related blog post in double quick time, which pushes your equivalent hourly rate up. On the other hand, if you are writing about a topic that you are not familiar with, it is likely to take you far longer.
Don’t fall into the common trap of charging the same rate across the board. Decide what hourly rate you would be comfortable with, consider each job on an individual basis, and charge accordingly.

How To Make Money on YouTube

A couple of days ago I wrote a post talking about some British parents who published a 57-second video of their children on YouTube and ended up making over $150,000 from that video alone.
Most people who left a comment wanted to get more information on how to make money on YouTube, so I decided to write a follow-up post about it.
In a nutshell you make money on YouTube by becoming a YouTube partner, which allows you to display ads on your videos, and then you earn a percentage of the revenues generated by clicks on those ads, much like with AdSense. As for how much money you can actually make, I heard numbers anywhere from $3 up to $10 per 1,000 video views.
However, the process of becoming a YouTube partner is not as trivial as becoming an AdSense publisher. Below you’ll find the basic steps you need to go through:

1. Make Sure You Have an AdSense Account

While the process to be able to display ads on your YouTube videos is a separate one, your earnings and stats will go together with your AdSense account, so you need to have one.
In theory you could apply to become a YouTube partner before having an AdSense account, and in case you get accepted you would then follow up with an AdSense application. I believe the other way around is much simpler, though.

2. Grow Your Audience on YouTube

One of the most important criteria the YouTube guys will use to evaluate your application is the audience you reach on YouTube. They don’t reveal what are the requirements, but I’ve seen many people say these are the ballpark numbers you need to have before getting accepted:
  • at least 1,000 subscribers
  • at least 1,000 views on all your videos
  • at least 10,000 channel views
These are the very minimum though, if you want to make sure you’ll get accepted I would aim for 5,000 subscribers, 50,000 channel views and over 1,000,000 upload views total.

3. Get Videos Out There Regularly

If you only have one or two videos uploaded your chances of getting accepted are low, even if those videos went viral. That’s because YouTube is looking for people who are planning to work with them over the long term.
The more regularly and frequently you upload new videos, the better. For instance, someone who uploads a new video every day will have a better chance of getting accepted than someone who uploads one every couple of weeks.
You also want to make sure you have at least 100 uploaded videos before applying to become a partner (though some people say 50 will be enough).

4. Develop A Brand Around Your Videos

This step is not essential, but I think it helps a lot on getting approve. You need to remember that, once you meet the technical guidelines, it will be a person on the other site deciding on whether you are a good fit for becoming a YouTube Partner or not. In other words, the more professional you look the higher your chances.
Practical tips include:
  • Create a website to host your videos and give your audience more wayts to interact
  • Create a nice logo and use it everywhere
  • Use a watermark on your videos with your logo
  • Consider getting a professional intro made for your videos
  • Customize your YouTube channel to make it look professional

5. Make Sure Your Content Has Zero Copyrighted Material

If there’s one thing that will get your application rejected on the spot is copyright infringement, so make sure you have zero copyrighted material on your videos.
This includes images, graphics, logos, video clips and audio. For instance, even just using a music on the background which you don’t have permission to could get your application rejected.

6. Apply to Become a YouTube Partner

After you followed all the previous steps you are ready to apply. You can do that via the official YouTube Partner Program page. It might take a while to get your application considered due to the load of people applying, but once you get accepted you’ll be able to start displaying ads on your videos right away.
Good luck!

AdSense Profits Interview: HTML-Site.nl

As you might remember a couple of months ago I launched the AdSense Profits Course, a training program for bloggers and webmasters who want to increase their AdSense earnings (or get started with it).
The feedback was great, with most of the members managing to increase their earnings significantly in the weeks/months after the course (e.g., 20%, 30%, 50%, and in some cases even 100%).
I figured it would be interesting to interview some of the members, asking what worked for them, what didn’t work, what changes they applied to their websites and so on.
The first interview is with Bjorn Simmering, who owns HTML-Site.nl. It’s a dutch site dedicating to helping people learn HTML and build their own websites.

1. When and why did you start HTML-site.nl?
I started HTML-site.nl in 2002. First it was for students of the school I worked for, but it started to grow over the years, until it actually became one of the big players in the “build a website” niche. Today it receives around 3,000 daily visitors, which is a lot of you consider it’s geared toward Dutch people only.
2. What goals did you have for the site initially?
As mentioned above, the first goal was to show the students of my school how they could build a site of their own. But soon people from all over my country was visiting it, so I decided to buy a .nl domain for the site (which is the country-level domain on Netherlands). I didn’t have any plans to make money with it initially, though.
3. Why did you decide to monetize it with Google AdSense?
Once the traffic reached a good level I figured I could try to monetize it, and AdSense was the hot thing on the web.
The results were pretty good, with the site earnings a hundred or so Euros per month initially. As I made layout and other changes on the site earnings could go down, but then I would read more about it, make some more changes and it would go up again.
I also tried to use affiliate marketing, but it didn’t work as well. Sometimes I would make money with it, but AdSense was more stable.
4. What was your monthly earnings before you took the course?
Here’s the breakdown:
March – $444
April – $385
May – $446
So around $430 per month.
5. What about in the months after the course, when you started applying the stuff you learned?
Here’s the breakdown (it includes AdSense and private ad sales, as one company actually purchased a banner where I had one AdSense unit):
June – $559
July – $588
August – $557
September – $637
So around $585 is the average.
6. Did your traffic change after you took the course?
It didn’t change that much, only the normal seasonal fluctuations. The increase in earnings came from a better monetization strategy.
7. What changes did you specifically made to your monetization strategy?
First of all I made a change in banner below my posts. It used to be a 468×60, but I realized it was too small to generate a decent CTR. I changed it to a 336×280 and the earnings increased quite a bit.
I also realized I had many without ads, including my forum. I included a banner there, and soon afterward I sold that spot to a company.
I also did tests with colors, placements, and banner/ad rotations. Some changes worked well, some didn’t. For example, changing the color of the links didn’t have a great impact on my CTR.
8. What tip do you have for beginners who are just getting started with AdSense?
Just get started, and remember to test, test and test. Don’t wait until your website is large or everything is perfect with your design. Just get started.
Ah, and remember to respect the Google AdSense guidelines.
9. What plans to have for your website now, and how much do you think it can potentially earn per month?
I want to make more videos. I also provide two courses on the site now, but I want to make more.
I believe that site can generate around 1000 Euros a month when traffic increases more. But that part is hard. I have been trying for a while, but so far the number of monthly visitors is flat. I am considering to start writing articles in English, but not sure yet.

3 Ways To Instantly Double Your Affiliate Sales

When it comes to making money with a blog, advertising can become a headache.
That’s why recently, many bloggers have gotten into using affiliate programs to monetize their blog, and some have seen some outstanding success with these programs.
These few are the outliers, however, and many bloggers struggle to even make a single affiliate sale.
Worse yet, it’s almost always because they are using affiliate links in the wrong way, when they should be taking cues from the big bloggers they follow.
Below I am going to show you how to instantly double your affiliate sales on your site.
It is going to take some extra work and it won’t be easy, but I guarantee that if you do things this way, you’ll be doing them the right way.

1.) Show, Don’ Tell (Using Videos)

One of my biggest inspirations in the affiliate marketing game is Pat Flynn of the Smart Passive Income blog.
While some (perhaps including Pat himself) wouldn’t classify him simply as an “affiliate marketer” (he does much more than that), he is definitely one of the best in the biz.
That being said, Pat is quite a role model for affiliate marketers to follow, because he doesn’t rely on trickiery or false promises in his strategy for getting affiliate sales.
In fact, Pat uses all 3 of the techniques that I’m about to mention, but he absolutely excels at one in particular: showing, not telling.
When it comes to getting the affiliate sale, you have to SHOW the potential customer how a product or service will benefit them, not just tell them about it.
And there is no more powerful form of showing than actual video of the product’s usage.
Now I understand that this won’t be applicable for all affiliate products (such as e-Books), but it is very effective for practically everything else.
It’s effective because it gives people a behind the scenes look of how to effectively use what they are about to buy.
While the sales pages of most products will tout the benefits, sales pages are less likely to be believed, just like advertisements are less likely to be believed.
They show you the product, but what’s the guarantee that it will work as advertised?
That’s where the smart affiliate marketer comes in.
Using a hands on video for the product (uploaded on YouTube, which brings in more traffic!) to guide people through the actual uses of the product and showing it in action will lead you to a guaranteed increase in affiliate comissions, as you earn people’s trust by showing them how they can use said product themselves.
Showing leads to trust, and trust leads to more sales.
Which brings me to my next point…

2.) Be Genuine

There is nothing that will bring your affiliate sales down then if you come off as a sleaze who knows nothing about the product you’re promoting.
Ideally, you will love and actively use the product that you are about to promote before you even consider linking to it.
If you are strapped on cash, and building a new site, this is exacly why you should not be plastering affiliate links and ads all over the place: you should be focused on creating a resource that people want to visit, and promoting the products that you do actively use at the time, but in a natural way.
One of the most natural ways to do just that is to use text-based affiliate links in comprehensive posts that thoroughly cover a large topic.
For instance, AWeber is a popular tool for many bloggers, and they offer a rewarding affiliate program.
If you wanted to promote AWeber, a “review post” will likely not be as effective as a post that highlights the benefits of email marketing and building a list, with a few text affiliate links to AWeber, which you tout as your preferred email service of choice.
This type of post will be much better recieved because people will see that you are interested in providing valuable content and not just getting them to click on an affiliate link.
Now imagine you threw in a video of yourself actively managing your list on AWeber, highlighint it’s benefits and superior capabilities… I think you see where I’m going, be genuine and providing actual usage will build trust, which in turn (say it with me) will increase sales.

3.) Focus Your Offerings

When most people start with affiliate marketing, they tend to get stuck in a phase of “ooh shiny!”, promoting every semi-related product under the sun in hopes of a sale.
What they don’t realize is that instead of being beneficial to their conversions and income, this is a disastrous move to their potential earnings.
Having focus in the products you promote is beneficial for a number of reasons.
First is that with an emphasis on a certain selection of products, you will discuss their benefits more and show that you really use them and believe in their worth, building trust.
Second is that bombarding people with tons of affiliate links is not only in poor taste (which people will catch on to), but it diversifies your options too much.
When give too many choices, many people will opt for none, or take so long to decide that you’ll lose the sale.
Focus ensures people know exactly what products you actively use, will guarantee their familiarity with them as they come back to your blog, and will make your links out more legitimate: people will know you only link to the good stuff, and aren’t just linking them to every product in the world, good or bad, just for the affiliate sale.

Adsense optimization tips and techniques

Being the primary monetization tool for most blogs and other websites, it’s imperative to get the most out of Adsense. While it’s good to read up on other people’s strategies, sometimes it’s nice to hear it, er… straight from the horse’s mouth. Google has recently come out with a video for Adsense optimization and I thought I’d share it with you. But first, here’s a quick summary:

5 Steps to optimize your Google Adsense Earnings
1. Analyze your webpages. Different types of sites elicit different user behaviors, and you should tailor-fit your ad placement accordingly. However, the general rule is to place them as near to the primary content as possible. The video shows a heat map as a guide.
2. Set up custom channels. Create custom channels per ad unit to track their individual performance, instead of lumping everything together. This is pretty basic stuff which will give you many wonderful benefits down the line (and it’s a sin not to do it!).
3. Optimize your ad unit design and placement. One of the great things about this video is that it spills the beans on what specific ad formats advertisers prefer most, which also happen to be the top performing formats in terms of clickthrough rates and CPM. What’s more, it gives smart tips on optimizing the color palette to increase ad effectiveness.
4. Maximize revenue from multiple ad units. Cluttering your pages with ads will only turn off your visitors, so a better approach is to maximize the yield from the limited number of ad units allowed by Adsense. The video shows how to use the data from your custom channels to map out a strategy.
5. Track and measure your results. The last step is to take full advantage of the flexible reports generation feature of Adsense, and this tutorial tells you how. They also give further references at the end of the video.
I’ve used Adsense for some time and have implemented some of these suggestions before, but I still found it helpful with the little bits and pieces of information they were generous enough to provide. So do yourself a favor. Take a 10 minute break, drink your favorite beverage, and watch the video by clicking the image below. Cheers!
